Eulogy for William George Moody

Eulogy for William George Moody   Bill was born in Kilburn, London on the 25th April 1934; he was the eldest of three children born to William and Violet Moody. His Dad William was a policeman at Harrow Road and his mum Violet kept the home…. Life was very tough in those days and a story is told of William and Violet moving to a new room in London and wheeling all their belonging on a barrow. On arrival at the address they found that the room had already been let and so had to search for somewhere else.   Bill’s schooling was at Duddenhill and St Mary’s Junior school. During the blitz he and eldest sister Shirley were evacuated to Glynneath, South Wales. They stayed in a pub and lived in the attic… these were not happy days and they missed family life. On returning to Willesden, London when the war ended, Bill continued his education and youngest sister Gina was born.   After leaving school Bill went into the butchery trade and except for working as a milkman for a year, he spent all his working life as a butcher and worked his way up to a management position at Pinner in the London Borough of Harrow.   Bill married his first wife Judy at a young age and they went on to produce three wonderful children, Chris, Kim and Bill… he was also proud Grandad and Great Grandad, having twelve Grandchildren and six Great Grandchildren. After Judy’s sad death, Bill met up with Shirley in 1995 and went on to marry her in Ely, in 1997; they remained happily married right up to this time of sadness.   Bill was a bit of a joker and loved to tease. After Judy’s death he started to drink more than usual and Gina was quite worried about it. She told Chris and she must have let the cat out of the bag, because Bill started filling his whisky bottle with cold tea and proceeded to wind her up whenever he could.   Bill enjoyed his music and the sounds of Ella Fitzgerald, Petula Clark and Barbra Streisand; he also loved the West End musicals, his most favourite being Les Miserables and he would play the music cd of the show regularly.   Another love of Bills life was travel and he visited many countries including such places as California U.S.A, Malta and Turkey and after their arrival in Spain Bill and Shirley enjoyed driving around visiting many places in this beautiful part of Spain until his health deteriorated and Shirley was unsure of driving long distances. Bill also loved his football and was a lifetime supporter of the Arsenal Football Club. He enjoyed test cricket too, played crown green bowls and ten pin bowling. On occasions Bill took sister Shirley to the speedway and one time he lost her. They eventually found each other and Bill was so glad because he knew that his mum would have killed him if anything had happened to her.   Another thing that Bill enjoyed was quizzes and even though he got so ill he still very much enjoyed quiz shows on the television.   Bill and Shirley arrived in Spain in January 2002, checking out properties in the Quesada area and finally making a decision to live here on Camposol. Bill said he was fed up with the winds in Cambridgshire… they were getting him down.   Until their arrival in Spain, Bill’s only health problems had been the occasional cut finger which was par for the course in the business he was in. Sadly in the October of their first year here, Bill suffered a mild stroke and then had to undergo a series of five operations for various conditions and gradually his health deteriorated little by little….. but his humour remained right up to the end.   So, how do we sum up the life of Bill Moody ? He loved his family, he was a great Husband, Father, Grandfather, Great Grandfather, Brother and Friend. He loved a joke, liked a bargain and loved to wind people up in his own very special way.   Bill, you will be so very sadly missed by many who loved you, but you have left your family and friends with a million memories which no one can ever take away. God bless you Bill
